How many rosettes do you need for your competition?

How many rosettes do you need for your competition?

One of the most common questions when planning a competition is: How many rosettes do I actually need? Here’s an easy way to figure it out.

The basic rule—count the placed horses plus the reserves

  • Determine how many placements will be awarded per class (typically 1st through 5th or 1st through 3rd).
  • Add alternates—usually 1–2 alternate rosettes per class.
  • Multiply by the number of classes.

Example

5 classes × 5 placements = 25 rosettes. Add 2 reserves per class = +10, for a total of 35 rosettes.

Also consider

  • Special awards —e.g., youngest participant or best equipment.
  • Volunteers – many events also award a commemorative rosette to volunteers.
