What is an award rosette, and how is it put together?

An award rosette is the classic prize given at competitions, from equestrian and dog sports to hobby horse events. But how is it actually put together, and what do the different parts mean? Here, we’ll go over everything you need to know.

The three main parts of an award rosette:

  1. The ribbon (wreath) —the pleated ribbon that forms the “flower” at the center of the rosette.
  2. The plaque —the round center piece that often bears the name of the competition or club.
  3. The fastener —a shorter ribbon or pin for attaching the rosette to a horse, dog, or wall.

What is a “wreath”?

  • 1 wreath: simple and affordable, suitable for smaller classes.
  • 2 wreaths: most common at competitions, often priced at 24–26 kr each.
  • 3 wreaths: the largest and most ornate, for finals and titles.

Want to make your own?

Making a rosette yourself works great for single pieces—see our guide “How to Make Your Own Prize Rosette.” For larger quantities, ready-made rosettes are often faster and cheaper per piece. Related: Award Rosette Color Scheme and Award Rosette Sizes and Number of Wreaths.
